Tsunami disaster, implication on economy Essay -- essays research pape

TSUNAMI DISASTER, WHAT IMPLICATION ON ECONOMIC SYSTEM IN THIS REGION? We view with awe a release of power on this scale. We know that this power is greater than that of our species — nature holds us in its hands. We may be able to mitigate some of the consequences; in some cases we may be able to give advance warning of the threat; but we are not in control; the tsunami has demonstrated this ancient truth. William Rees-Mogg INTRODUCTION 1. On the morning of December 26, 2004 a magnitude 9.3 earthquake struck off the Northwest coast of the Indonesian island of Sumatra. The earthquake resulted from complex slip on the fault where the oceanic portion of the Indian Plate slides under Sumatra, part of the Eurasian Plate. The earthquake deformed the ocean floor, pushing the overlying water up into a tsunami wave. The tsunami wave devastated nearby areas where the wave may have been as high as 25 meters (80 feet) tall and killed nearly 300,000 people from nations in the region and tourists from around the world. The tsunami wave itself also traveled the globe, and was measured in the Pacific and many other places by tide gauges. Measurements in California exceeded 40 cm in height, while New Jersey saw water level fluctuations as great as 34 cm . 2. Named the biggest earthquake in 40 years struck off the coast of North Sumatra, creating the greatest human catastrophe in living memory. The epicenter of the quake, on the shallow ocean floor, caused a major tsunami to sweep through the Bay of Bengal, the Andaman Sea, and the Indian Ocean. Human casualties exceeding 260,000 and massive damage to property had been reported in Southeast Asia (Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, Myanmar), South Asia (India, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh), Eastern Africa (Somalia and Tanzania) and the Maldives. AIM 3. The aim of this paper is to examine Tsunami disaster that happened on December 26, 2005, in brief, and its implication on economic system particularly to the impact of South East Asia region. Subsequently, I will further examine the destruction of economy on short and long term impact. In realizing this, the yardstick that is use is the measurement index created by World Bank. The paper will focus in brief to the whole country that affected by the disaster but main focus will be on South East... ...e [http://www.shoa.cl/oceano/itic/Master.html]). Kurt Cobains Biography Essay -- Kurt Cobain Artist Nirvana Biographie

Kurt Cobain's Biography   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Kurt Donald Cobain was born to Wendy and Donald Cobain on February 20, 1967 in the small logging community of Aberdeen Washington and his life ended on April 5, 1994. Kurt fronted one of the greatest bands of our time called Nirvana. In this report I hope to inform you about the life and mysterious death of Kurt Cobain.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Kurt had a good childhood, but a troubled adolescence. Partly because of his parents splitting up in 1975 when Kurt was eight years old. Kurt chose to live with his mother. Kurt's father remarried three years later.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Kurt got his first guitar for his 14th birthday. He took one guitar lesson and never paid for it. Kurt says "I went and learned the power chords and never went back and never paid for the lesson I guess I still owe that guy the $6 or whatever it was. I didn't go back because once you know the power chords you can start writing your own songs."   Ã‚     Ã‚  Ã‚  Kurt's mother remarried in May of 1984 to Pat O'Connor and one year later in May of 1985 Kurt would drop out of high school at the age of 17. During this period of his life Kurt got caught up with the drug community of Aberdeen and started heroin, an addiction he would never defeat. Many blame his death on this horrendous drug. Kurt often lived under a bridge along the muddy banks of the Wishkah river during that period. Kurt had been just hanging out when he met Chad Channing and Krist Novaselic and they would go on to find out that they each played music. Chad played the drums and Krist played the bass. The three started getting together and jamming. They wrote some of their own songs and sent out some demo tapes. They released a single in November of 1988. They got signed to a small company and produced their first album titled Bleach. It featured Chad Channing on Drums, Kurt Cobain on guitar and vocals, and Krist Novaselic on bass. Bleach only ending up costing $600 to produce and did not sell big. After recording Bleach the band made a short west coast tour that started in February of 1989 in Seattle and moved down the coast. However the band was just preparing for the tour for Bleach which started on June 22, 1989 in San Francisco and ended in New Castle, England, the bands first European show.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Nirvana started another short US tour in February of 1990 and one month later Chad left the band to be ... ...k the greenhouse. Dylan was Kurt's best friend and helped Tom Grant look for Kurt, This is where my survey comes in out of 47 people surveyed including fans, students, and teachers 20 said they believed that Kurt was murdered and 27 said they believed that Kurt committed suicide, almost an even split.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Kurt left a big hole in the music industry and this was expressed by many of his fellow musicians including Eddy Vedder of Pearl Jam and Michael Stipe of R.E.M. Eddy had to say "I feel bad that Kurt's not still writing songs because he was brilliant and that guy could emotionally twang my heart-strings. Every song he wrote spoke to me."   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Dave Grohl and Pat Smear, who had been a late edition for In Utero an back-up guitar formed a band called the Foo Fighters with Dave on lead guitar and vocals, Pat on back-up guitar again, and two new people. Krist went on to join a band called Sweet 75. Krist has also become a "spokesperson" for the band being the only member that was with the band all the way until the end. Fall Of Romanian Republic And Julius Caesar History Essay

When people imagine a great imperium, most think of Rome. The Romans had great thoughts and programs which would hold made any current imperium seem bantam. From the great enlargement led by consummate tacticians to the immensely progress authorities which our authorities is modeled after today, the Romans had a fantastic hereafter, if non for its many defects. The early enlargements led to the separation of an already seesawing societal category, the authorities had many holes which rewarded the wealthy and the greed of Lords and people of power weakened a authorities which could hold been to the full polished. The rise of Julius Caesar after the agreement with Pompey would hold been longer lived if the senator ‘s powers were n't relinquished for the â€Å" better of the people. † All of this and more would finally take to the autumn of the Roman Republic and subsequently the Roman Empire. There were many factors which led to the autumn of the Roman Republic which inclu de the battle of authorities breakability, the negative influence of the Gracchi, the First Triumvirate and the absolutism of Julius Caesar. To understand how Rome finally fell, one must get down before the little city state grew. After the concluding Roman male monarch was exiled, Rome attempted to construct a little, but slightly effectual authorities described as an oligarchy or ruled by â€Å" few † ( Asimov 28 ) . As a Republic, the Romans gave power to a leader by electing him into office, similar to what we do today. This official, known as the pretor, was kept in cheque by another pretor who was in office. Efficaciously, nil would go on unless both wholly agreed on an issue which better notes their place as consuls. Today in the American authorities, there are three subdivisions ( Executive, Legislative and Judicial ) which appear to be efficient plenty to properly â€Å" look into † each other. Like our executive subdivision, the Roman consuls were in charge of the military and led them into conflict ( Asimov 24-25 ) . Similarly to the American Judicial subdivision, Romans had their ain Judgess call ed quaestors which overlooked all of the tests. This was the beginning of a suited system of regulating, but the issue was the people who could be elected to keep these places were of a certain category. The two chief societal categories in the early Roman Republic were the patricians and the plebeians, plebs for short. The patrician category consisted of Lords and wealthiest land proprietors. The plebs were the mundane societal category of normal, mundane citizens which included merchandisers, workers, and the hapless. During the beginning of the immature authorities, the lone people who could be elected into the taking places were the patricians. This restriction of power led to a split in the two categories. Basically, the voice of all was non heard because merely the patricians were able make of import determinations affecting mundane activities and lawmaking. Not merely was the state of affairs unfair, but the deficiency of attention for all citizens increased the separation of categories. The illustration Asimov gives is this: â€Å" Why should the patrician attention? He was good plenty off to last the difficult times. And if a common husbandman went into debt, the debt Torahs were so rough that the plebeian would hold to sell himself and his household into bondage to pay off the debt. It would be the patrician landholder to whom he was in debt and for whom he must so break one's back. ( 29 ) This deficiency of attention forced the plebs to seek alternate manner of life. In 494 B.C. , a big population of plebs left Rome to make their ain authorities. This move initiated the patricians to compromise with their overpoweringly big populations of plebs. This via media gave the plebs a voice in the authorities, but was still really limited. The new voice of the plebs were the tribunes. These elected functionaries merely represented other plebeians and could merely voice their sentiment on public issues. The add-on of these new functionaries added another cheque to equilibrate Roman authorities. An illustration of this was the freshly added ability of the tribunes veto an unjust jurisprudence ( Asimov 30 ) . Although it appeared the Roman Lords attempted to be more just, the greed and â€Å" loss of power † to the tribunes made internal discord evident. The tribune ‘s safety became more a big issue after the incident with Coriolanus incident. These and similar events led to the codification of Roman jurisprudence in 450 B.C. This was an effort to forestall the patricians in senate from â€Å" flexing the jurisprudence. † Besides, it gave the tribunes the ability to support both themselves from the unjust advantages established by the patricians and their lives. Ten patrician work forces, called decemvirs, were elected to keep power until the Torahs were finished. The new Torahs were written on bronzy tablets and were therefore called the Twelve Tables which was the foundation of their jurisprudence ( Asimov 32 ) . Again, the adaptative ability of the Romans resulted in another reasonable solution. Whenever a job arose, they were able to decide the issue. The inquiry so is why were at that place so many issues during this epoch? Even after they moved on to a apparently better authorities, the patricians and plebeians arrived at another route block. The decemvirs, harmonizing to Roman tradition, stayed in power even after the Torahs were written. More issues that revolved around the battle of entire control plagued the senate. Again the plebeians wanted to go forth because of these events, but big part of the population forced the patricians to listen and the decemvirs relinquished their place. Soon power would be more equally spread as the plebeians place to better influence legislation increased and the integrating of the two categories in matrimony allowed the less fortunate more chances ( Asimov 33 ) . With more and more chances to go a stable and just authorities, Rome was on the right way. Although they took a measure in front in their adulthood, there was a important reverse many historiographers believed contributed to the autumn of Republic. Tiberius and Gaius Gracchus, better known as the Gracchi, were two brothers who sought extremist reform which many believe increased tenseness in the senate and diminished power due to a big separation of thoughts. Their male parent was both a politician and military leader, which theoretically gave them the tools to win. After his decease in Spain Cornelia, the Gracchi ‘s female parent, made certain her boies were knowing citizens before they were combatants. Her dedication to her lone â€Å" gems † would craft the foundation of a politically strong, but socially destructive dreamers. The older Gracchi, Tiberius, initiated the way to reform after witnessing the horrors of unfairness and societal inequality in Rome. In 134 B.C. he was elected as a tribune and his first effort to convey equality was the thought of a land reform. Basically, his program was to do the available land more evened out to all citizens of Rome ( Asimov 138-40 ) . Although this was a healthy progr am for the plebs, the job began with the current landholders. The patricians, both in senate and out, were angered by this impression. Although there technically was a jurisprudence which supported Tiberius ‘ reform, the affluent patricians would lose a great part of their land ( Asimov 139 ) . To protect their land, his oppositions used their governmental system and pecuniary strength to derive an advantage. Since no new jurisprudence would be pass if a veto by the tribune party was raised, their scheme was to purchase their manner into protection. The other tribune at the clip was a adult male name Marcus Octavius, who was believed to be a friend of Tiberius. After a few payoff from the patricians, Octavius proved to be a friend merely to the highest bidder. The usage of his power to blackball successfully prevented the new reforms to be passed. This caused Tiberius to gesticulate the remotion of his former friend and co-tribune. In fact, this improper move granted the senate more grounds to take this extremist. His decease was at hand after his term so he attempted to hold himself reelected illicitly. This ended ill due to his oppositions claim of Tiberius ‘s effort to be a sovereign. The Republic would hold nil to make with this once more, so Tiberius did non go a tribune once more. After he lost his place in the senate, he was viciously murdered by his oppositions and dumped into the Tiber River ( Asimov 140-41 ) . Finally, Gaius played an of import function for the reformists. After his brother ‘s decease, he was elected a tribune a

The Marketing principles

The Marketing principles I will present are; Understanding the customer's needs: ‘if you can speak the customers language you can understand their needs better† Book: Marketing plans 1996, (Angela Wheaton) It is very important that companies have the knowledge of customer's needs, as it is a key to a company. GRRRLZ Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

GRRRLZ - Essay Example The first performance, which was silent, represented the daily morning routine of the girls. It was the most successful scene in my opinion because all actors were together on the stage and each was focusing solely on the acting without paying any attention to the audience. Each actor had their own performance which they focused on. This ensured that the fourth wall between the characters and the audience remained intact. On the other hand, the most unsuccessful part of the performance in my opinion was scene #21, Las Hermanas. There were a lot of chatting at the beginning of this performance and I felt slightly bored by the long lines that the actors read. I think One of the major reasons why I felt bored was because the rest of the performances were short and had music, sound effects and dancing to complement them, whereas this performance was not only long, but merely featured actors reading their lines. I think that the actors worked well together, the performances were fluid, and the monologues and dancing were performed superbly. For example, performance #10, Ode to Daffiness, had the actors dancing and performing in sync. The singing and dancing were completely in sync with the music and were executed beautifully. All the actors were well casted and were perfect for their roles, however, I liked one actor in all her performances: the actress who played Natalie. I thought she acted, danced and sang superbly. What is more, she was very versatile: in performance #4, God’s Girls, she was acting the part of a young girl with another actor playing her sister. They were talking about lying and faith. Natalie was perfect in her portrayal of a young girl. Her way of talking with her sister as a child was very well acted. She even changed her voice during the performance, along with shouting and jumping around like a child. The actors changed their characters between each performance smoothly. I have not been witness to performances where the actors

Case Study Example Gram Vikas, an NGO which was founded with an aim to take care the sanitation and water facilities in rural areas. It was established with the motive to serve the society and enhance overall development of rural areas in Orissa. The executive director of the organization is Joe Madiath who can be considered to be a social entrepreneur. Within few years Joe has been able to bring forth some drastic changes in villages across Orissa. This organization was established with non-profit motive where the major focus of the founder was to spread equality amongst villagers and to change their lifestyle. It was a distinctive approach towards entrepreneurship as organizational members desired to work along with village members. The factors that affected villagers were indebtedness and alcoholism. These conditions needed to be eliminated by the organization so that they can incorporate changes in the location. This non-profit organization also started their program on bringing in electricity in t he villages. Their bio gas project was the first initiative towards this program. However unlike other entrepreneurial approaches Joe and his team members did not keep the project bounded within the system but spread its concept amongst all employees. This organization had even kept the facility that if their employees was able to establish bio gas project in other villages and if it proved to be successful then they would be their owners. Such approaches are not observed in any other form of entrepreneurship and this is because the major aim of such organizations is much above protecting their core values. The main distinctive factor of Gram Vikas approach was that it started improvement from bottom level of the rural living system. It believed that equality is important in making such projects successfully and hence focused on involving all the village members. This NGO started its journey with widespread bio gas projects

An Analysis of Delivering Benefits Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

An Analysis of Delivering Benefits - Essay Example Therefore FedEx in order to curtail its health care expenses offered variety of different health care plans; previously the company was facilitating employees health care needs by offering health care benefits through managed care programs like HMO (health maintenance organization) and PPO (preferred provider organization) but later company realized that there is further need of improvements in this regard. As a result company offered various different health care plans; the main logic behind this act was to engage more and more employees in the health care benefits plans by giving them various options to choose from, so that they can be best served and company on the other hand can save handsome amount of money. For achieving this target FedEx very succinctly offered its employees the option to choose from the current health care providers, however if one plans to see a doctor that is not under the panel of FedEx then different volume of deduction will be carried out from employees salaries. By educating and informing employees about the services and pathway related to avail these services resulted in controlling the health care budget up to great extent. As employees at time often go to see a doctor for minor problems because of the health care allowances that their companies are offering. Furthermore there are several other options that employees can use in order to cheat in this regard. These miss usages of health care facilities resulted in paying companies more; moreover to further worsen this situation inflation related to health care services are growing rapidly. As a result companies have no options but to muzzle these expenses as was the case with FedEx. FedEx timely and calculated action in terms of enhancing its policies regarding health care services proved to of vital importance as employees were not questioning the extra deductions because every thing was explained to them prior and they were given the power to choose from the different offerings . Ultimately results in controlling and muzzling the health care expenses genie. Answer 2: It is believe that companies when searching or hiring for employees look for a physically fit and energetic employees so that they can gain maximum advantage from them. As Human Resource manager are always looking to hire an individual that will turn out to be an asset for the company not a liability. However human beings at times are fragile and have tendencies to be affected from the environment and get some diseases. There are some that are born with some diseases. Therefore companies while recruiting look for physical fit employees in most situations especially companies that require more physical fitness like logistics industry. FedEx falls under the category of courier and logistics service provider company, therefore their hunt for fit employees is obvious, furthermore after hiring the company ensures that these fit recruits should remain fit for the longer run so that they can best ser ve the company’s purpose. In a recent past FedEx in order to best serve its employees not only made adjustments in the health care benefits programs but also created a department that provides medical assistance by giving advices regarding how to remain fit. Furthermore employees can even ask or share their fitness related issues from them especially those who are having chronic diseases like asthma, sugar and arthritis. The main logic
