A Study On Coaching Experience - 1133 Words

Coaching Experience I chose to work with my colleague Christy Davis. Mrs. Davis has been teaching special education for about 10 years. She currently co-teaches in an 8th grade language arts class and she teaches two literacy IMPACT classes. When meeting with Mrs. Davis to implement a literacy strategy with third period language arts class (this is the time I have planning) Christy indicated there was a certain student in the class that she often worked with one on one during the bell ringer activity. The student was reading at BR lexile level which is at the preschool level. Although the student is in 8th grade, he has a severe learning disability that makes reading very difficult. Christy wanted a strategy to work on with the student that she could do during the bell ringer that help him work on phonemic awareness and phonics. I listened to her concerns that she often does not have enough time to work with the student and I tried to paraphrase her concerns and ask what she would like to learn. She ind icated a 5 to 10 minute strategy she could work on with the student would serve her purposes best. The strategy that I recommended for Mrs. Davis is the Words your Way Strategy. This strategy combines both phonemic awareness and phonics, and the lessons are typically short. Students are given a set of letters and the teacher dictates what words the students should spell. Benjamin Voyer defined the psychology of teamwork in the article. The study of teamwork was originated with the development of social psychology and interest on how groups behave, predominantly as against another group. There were two groups that were discussed in the article that contributed to the study of teamwork. The first group is â€Å"in group† as described as being a member of a group who share a particular interest or activity and defines who you are. The second group was described as a group outside one s own with which one feels no sense of identity. This second group is termed as â€Å"out group†. Hellen Keller’s clichà © enunciates that we can do so little if we are alone and we can do so much if we will work as a team. According to the writer, things can go wrong because power plays a big role in a team. In health care for example, quality and safety are the two big priorities. However, flaws still arise. Typically, the complications arise because of the problems in the team, not with the people’s ability. There was a situation wherein a misunderstanding between the surgeon and the assistant was narrated in the article. There was a misunderstanding due to the fact that the surgeon had just transferred from the other team. It simply tells us that teamwork was not applied in this situation. ENGL 102 Fiction Essay Liberty University Online Micheal McIntosh Fiction Essay The first of the two stories I chose to compare and contrast is titled â€Å"The Lottery† by Shirley Jackson and the second story is titled â€Å"The Rocking-Horse Winner† by D.H. Lawrence. I will compare each of their themes, characters, and plot developments in which they are both similar and different. One of the strongest comparison would be that both stories deal with the subject of luck in one sense or another. The Lottery being considered a game of chance in which luck plays an important factor in being the chosen winner but Luck in the Lottery has a different twist of fate because the winner of the Lottery is actually the†¦show more content†¦Looking at both stories, the Lottery appears to be a means of how the town remain at a low population and that the Lottery was a way of controlling that population. The Rocking-Horse Winner on the other hand uses gambling as an alternative to making money and that money is earned by being lucky and that you had to have an imagination in order to possess this luck. The Lottery focused its story around an ancient black wooden box that held the Lottery choices within it and the Rocking-Horse Winner was focused upon an old style Rocking Horse that was often used by children long ago and something that is not used today that often. Both endings of each story were odd enough whereas in the Lottery, the death of another person came as a ritual that was expected to happen so very often and in the Rocking-Horse Winner, Master Paul, the woman’s son sought the approval of his Mother concerning his having luck. The boy died that night and the Mother had not acknowledged that she knew that her son was lucky even though she was eighty –odd thousand to the good. Very odd turn of events in both stories and both had unusual endings in which there seems to be that type of contrast. Not that they were similar in story form but that they both ended in sadness. Stereotypes - A Hasty Generalization Essay example

Stereotypes are everywhere and can be about anyone. Generalized remarks about gender, sexual orientation, religion, ethnicity or age are common forms of stereotyping. Any time someone makes hasty groupings whether by race, gender or an individual and makes a blanket judgment about them is stereotyping. Military members are no different than society. One of the militarys greatest assets is its diverse workforce but with diversity comes stereotypes. As a woman in the military, I frequently encounter stereotypes and have made hasty conclusions about others. This paper will discuss a few stereotypes that I have faced in the military. Women have been serving honorably in the military for centuries; yet, the some of the stereotypes still†¦show more content†¦When women feel unnecessarily grouped as less committed, their commitment can fall based on lack of trust of their leadership. This feeling will follow them and they may even start to stereotype all men in the military as only promoting and caring for the males within an organization.
